Social communication of science, mobile science and politicized science in research in social and human sciences at the National University of San Luis, Argentina 2009-2019

Abstract

In the context of the social sciences and their development in the Faculty of Human Sciences of the National University of San Luis, Argentina, which aims to examine and articulate the construct that make up the social communication of science, mobile science, and «politicized» science in the period 2009-2019. The purpose that guides this formulation is to find points in common and differences, establish agreements, contextual frameworks of action and possible roles and actions of researchers in them and in this direction we propose this analysis to describe what is happening in research in social and human sciences at the FCH, National University of San Luis, using semi-structured interviews with key informants, such as the Project Directors of Social and Human Sciences of the UNSL, Argentina.

We are living through a period of transformation of academic publications that goes from traditional paper to open access digital journals. Digitization and open access journals are favoring the academic world by promoting the dissemination of knowledge. The members of Research Projects of the Faculty of Human Sciences of the UNSL, an autonomous and public organization, must make at least two presentations to national and international conferences or have two publications in disciplinary journals to develop research and provide answers to the national state that finances them.

The social communication of science and the promotion of research aimed at a non-university public should be an activity of increasing hierarchy in universities, since it would allow citizens to know what they do for the creation of knowledge and how this knowledge can serve or be useful to society. Although the CSC should be promoted and developed institutionally by the universities and their faculties, it is also an option for the university professor-researcher to promote their knowledge in diverse audiences with the new technologies.

We conducted in-depth interviews with a sample of ten directors of Research Projects of the Faculty of Human Sciences of the UNSL. The analysis of the interviews exposed that the characterizes the tendencies and practices of the social and human sciences researchers of the National University of San Luis, Argentina on the promotion of scientific knowledge in the age of development of Internet and the digitalization in our society and in the time of open access ok knowledge. This ongoing research seeks to know how researchers are linked to the communication of knowledge in the digital age and what descriptions, contributions and balances make their participation as knowledge promoters.
